Itinerary:
Day 1
On our way to Machupicchu - Downhill Mountain Biking plus White Water River Rafting
We will be picked up from our hotel to be taken to the Abra Malaga mountain pass, located at 15,000 feet of elevation. Upon our arrival to the highest point of our adventure, we will put on our equipment, bicycles and safety gear. Our downhill mountain biking guide, will give us a brief introduction of what to expect during our route. We will descend 10,000 feet over a distance of 40 miles in approximately 4-5 hours. The ending point of this part of the day will be the town of Chaullay. In this place we will get off the bikes, put on our rafting gear, get on our boats and continue our adventure, this time over the Wilcamayu river. The rafting portion will last up to 2 hours. To end the day, our transportation will pick us from the Maranura bridge to take us to our campsite in the Vilcabamba Valley.
Day 2
Hiking Through the Machupicchu Canyon
After a tasty and healthy breakfast made with locally grown fresh fruits and coffee from the cloud forest, we will go on a 40 minute bus ride to the starting point of our adventure for the day. We will hike most of the day following the course of the Urubamba river. An ancient Inca Trail will take us to our destination, passing through coca plantations and small villages and bridges, After 6 hours (13 miles), we will arrive to the Cocalmayu Hot Springs, a paradise in the mountains! Here we will soak in the medicinal waters of this place. Another highlight of this day is that our campsite will be located right within the hot springs compound.
Day 3
Flying like a Condor: Canopy Zip-Lining
We start the morning with a full dose of adrenaline flying through the mountains of the cloud forest. A 2 hour canopy adventure through almost 2 miles of cables, flying at 40 miles per hour. This is the best and safest zip-lining experience in Peru. After zip-lining, we will proceed to catch our bus that will take us to Hidroelectrica, here we will continue hiking to Aguas Calientes-Machupicchu. This 6 mile hike is easy and relaxing. The path runs alongside the train tracks, crossing bridges and surrounding the lower part of the archaeological site of Machupicchu. The arrival time for Aguas Calientes is 2PM. After a well served lunch, we will check in our hotel and rest till the next day for our cultural part when we visit Machupicchu.
Day 4
One of the Seven Wonders of the World - Machupicchu
Let this day speak for itself. We get up early to watch the sunrise in Machupicchu. Our local guide will take us for a walking tour to this magnificent place. A thorough historical and scientific explanation about the background of this “Lost City” will allow to understand the mystery of Machupicchu. In the afternoon, we will catch our train back to Cusco. Here we will celebrate our amazing adventure with a nice dinner and a round of beer for everyone.
